Insulated Swedish slab (SZP) - a modern foundation solution
Construction technology is constantly evolving. One of the most innovative approaches in Sweden is the SZP foundation, an economical, quick-to-install slab foundation that includes thermal insulation around the entire perimeter and floor area from the start.
The SZP foundation is designed for residential houses without a basement, and it provides a finished "black floor" of the first floor with installed heating and necessary communications.
When to choose the SZP basis?
This technology is recommended by:
-
In cold climates to reduce heat loss
-
In areas with high groundwater levels
-
For projects with underfloor heating
-
For frame, panel or modular structures
-
In areas with unstable ground where complex foundations would normally be required
SZP construction layers
The lower parts of the base are well thought out and carefully dimensioned:
-
Concrete leveling layer
-
Reinforcement (rods or mesh)
-
Shock absorbing layer (e.g. foam or special membrane)
-
Thermal insulation (in the entire base area)
All elements together form a compact, thermally insulated structure.
Expert advice
-
The base layer (sand/gravel) should be 300–600 mm thick, depending on the bearing capacity of the soil.
-
The top layer must be removed, but the construction level must be accurate
-
The foundation pit should be larger than the perimeter of the slab - to ensure stability, leave gaps of ~ 50–70 cm
-
Thermal insulation boards should be laid evenly - without adding adhesives later
-
All pipes and communications must be placed before pouring concrete.
Price list (indicative)
-
SZP basis: 130 – 150 €/m² + VAT
-
The ideal solution if you want to combine foundation and insulation in one step
